Please note all money made from this site will be given to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity
Most of those who know me, know i have been talking for years about running the London marathon. I did apply a few times, but never made it in. So this year i decided i will run the marathon no matter what.
Once i had entered the online ballot, I contacted a few charities and proposed a deal which was that i would run the marathon for their charity and start to raise money for them today. If i got into the marathon on the ballot then i would give them the place back so allocate to someone else. The cherry was if i didn’t raise the minimum needed for the place by October then they could take my place and give it to someone else any way. Very much a risk free situation for any charity to be in… well you would think so.
You would not believe the hassles and shocking behaviour of some of the charities contacted, who will remain nameless. I was dumbfounded, i was ready to run and fund-raise myself silly for these guys and they wouldn’t strike me a deal.
That was until i got to speak with Alex and Helen from the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity. They listened to what i had to offer, asked a few questions and within just a few days i had my place in the marathon, leaving me to raise as much money as i could.
So as of today i am in the marathon and doing just a few short runs 3 1-2 miles runs a week for a few weeks to get started. Then i will start my pre marathon training (to get fit and loose 3 stone), this will last until about December time. Then i will start my real training, 4 months of hard training.
